Dec 27, 2018

Are you looking to make an end-of-year tax deductible donation? The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Butte County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization & our nutrition programs are dedicated to cultivating the health and well-being of the Butte Cluster's (Butte, Glenn, Colusa, Sutter and Yuba Counties) under-served communities by leveraging the power of collaboration.

Our program provides individuals, including those with a disability with the knowledge & skills they need to make healthier choices, while at the same time changing the places where they live, work, pray, play and shop to better support those healthy choices.

Donations made to the UCCE Nutrition Program in the Butte Cluster will provide funding for research tested and evidence-based activities, including healthy cooking classes for children & families so they can learn how tasty and inexpensive healthy food can be!

Projects Aimed at Increasing Agricultural Literacy - We are consistently striving to build awareness, understanding and a positive public perception of agriculture in the Butte Cluster through education. We want to help individuals better understand where their food comes from, how it is grown, and who grows it.

Farmer in the Classroom - The Farmer in the Classroom program is intended to help children understand the importance of the food they eat as it pertains to their health, the health of our community and the world as a whole. This program educates students on local commodities and teaches them where and how food is grown, harvested, processed and packaged.

Student Agricultural Field Day- We believe everyone should have an understanding of where their food comes from. Each year we host an annual event aimed at increasing agricultural literacy for youth in Butte County.

Curriculum Development - We believe all individuals, including individuals with a disability should have equal opportunities to lead a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activity and good nutrition. We are currently working on developing a curriculum aimed at addressing the unique needs of individuals who have a disability. Activities in this curriculum will educate and engage learners in food preparation, food safety, nutrition, gardening and physical activity concepts that will contribute to their lifelong health and wellness. For every $250 raised towards this project, a Special Education or Special Day classroom in the Butte Cluster will receive a mobile classroom kitchen. [If you want a specific school/classroom to receive a mobile classroom kitchen, please specify that in the comments section of your donation].

Organic School Gardens- School gardens have entered the national spotlight as an effective way to promote life-long healthy eating habits and connect students to the natural world. Garden lessons provide opportunities to enhance student education through practical, hands-on learning. Garden lessons also help get students excited about fruits & vegetables and provide year-round opportunities for students to try fresh foods from the garden.
