Preliminary grain yield results for our fall-planted common wheat, triticale, durum wheat and barley trials are now available on the UC Small Grains Research and Information Center website:

The results are preliminary and may change as samples are cleaned, processed for quality and corrected for variations in moisture content. Final results that include disease and agronomic observations and grain quality outcomes will be available in late-September. These results are not intended as variety recommendations and should not be used as such. The true performance of a variety is most reliable when based on data taken across multiple locations and seasons. When final results are presented for the 2018-2019 data, they will include summaries across multiple regions and locations, as appropriate.

Also, a note from the California Wheat Commission Quality Lab on the current assessment of wheat grain quality based on samples analyzed from different parts of the state:
“The 2019 grain quality average values are: for protein content of 11.4% (12% mb), moisture content of 8.6%, Test weight of 62.5 lbs/bu, 1000 kernel weight of 41.1 mg, kernel hardness of 63, and Falling Number of 345 seconds. There are reports of a few scattered areas in California where Falling Numbers have been less than our 5-year average of 402 seconds, ranging from 210-300 seconds. Complete 2019 Crop Quality Report will be available in September. “
